MARK YOUR CALENDAR! Our Lady of Angels will be hosting it's First Communion Rehearsal and Mini Retreat for first communicants and their parents on Saturday, April 9, 2011, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM.

FIRST COMMUNION MASSES | Saturday May 7th, 2010

MARK YOUR CALENDAR! Our Lady of Angels will be celebrating it First Communion Masses on Saturday, May 7th , 2011.

There are 4 First Communion Masses on May 7th , 2011. Two Masses will be celebrated in English and two will be celebrated in Spanish. Children in 2nd grade and Special Sacrament 2 classes generally attend the 10:00 AM First Communion Mass in English or the Spanish Mass at 1:00 PM.

Older children from CIA2 or CIA3 classes will attend the 5:00 PM First Communion Mass in English or the 6:30 PM Mass in Spanish.

Families with different age siblings who are making their First Communions should contact the RE office.

BAPTISMAL CERTICIATES DUE | Sunday, December 19th, 2010

Baptismal Certificates are due in the office of religious education by Sunday, December 19, 2010. If you are having difficulties obtaining a copy of your child’s certificate, please notify the RE office as soon as possible.

First Communion

The Eucharist is the very sacrifice of the Body and Blood of the Lord Jesus which he instituted to perpetuate the sacrifice of the cross throughout the ages until his return in glory. (See Compendium 271)

Grades 1-3
Preparation for First Holy Communion consists of two consecutive years of study. Thus, a child planning to make First Communion prepares in 1st and 2nd grades, or the equivalent Special Sacrament Class 1 and 2. Parishioner’s children who attend St. Thomas Aquinas Regional School make their sacraments with the Parish. Parents are required to attend Religious Education parent meetings and retreats.

Grades 4-7
Older children needing Baptism and/or First Communion prepare for 2 consecutive years in Children’s Initiation classes. Parents are required to attend Religious Education parent meetings and retreats.

It is important for students preparing for First Communion to attend all classes during the school year. A student who is frequently absent jeopardizes his opportunity to receive the sacrament this year.
